Regular Dental Check-ups
Firstly, a detailed dental examination can reveal the early stages of tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health diseases which can be resolved effectively. Secondly, we aim to develop and maintain the patient’s own home-based oral hygiene regime
Regular recall visits are important for the maintenance of good oral health and the prevention of dental problems such as decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Depending on your individual needs, it is recommended that most people have periodic examinations every 6 to 12 months. A periodic examination is usually incorporated into a hygiene appointment, so that your mouth is checked and your teeth cleaned in one convenient appointment.

Periodontal Disease
Periodontitis is the disease of the gum, ligaments, and bone structure. If not detected early, this disease can eventually lead to tooth loss. Periodontal disease is caused by a build-up of plaque and bacteria in the mouth which hardens and becomes trapped under the gum-line. This infects and damages the teeth and bone structure, while microorganisms slowly erode the gums. Thankfully, if detected in the early stages, this disease can be treated before the teeth and bone structure begin to deteriorate.
Treatment
Upon diagnosis a comprehensive treatment plan will be tailored in regards to the condition of your gums. This treatment is generally implemented over a series of visits. Periodontal treatment involves: Scaling – Scaling involves removing stubborn bacteria and calculus wedged below the gum-line. Root Planning – involves removing plaque and tartar from the roots of the teeth to leave a cleansed and smooth surface. It is important after this Preventive treatment, that patients are dedicated to continuing their oral health routines. Treatment will meticulously clean the area- but this must be maintained in order to see lasting results
Dental Sealants
Layered Protection
Sealants protect these surfaces from tooth decay, by preventing germs and food particles from entering the grooves. The composite can be clear, white, or tinted to blend in with your natural tooth color.
Sealant Application
Sealing the grooves in your teeth does not require extracting any of the tooths natural structure. After the tooth is cleaned, a special composite is placed on the chewing surface. The tooth is then rinsed and dried for the sealant to then be applied. A heat-activated light may also be used harden the sealant.
Durable Compound
A durable sealant can last up to 10 years if looked after. Sealants should be checked upon each dental visit and can be reapplied if they have disappeared from wear
Fluoride
Fluoride is proven to be excellent for preventing tooth decay. If we spot early lesions on the teeth or if a child is at high risk of decay we often recommend professional fluoride application 2-3 times per year. Usually this is in the form of fluoride varnish application, which has been shown to reduce decay by 33-45%. Topical fluorides are directly applied to the erupted teeth. There are several solutions and gels used by the dentist in the clinics for topical fluoride applications
